St John’s is a large Anglican church in the centre of Harborne, a twenty minute walk from the University of Birmingham main campus. We seek to be faithful to God and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Our vision is: A heart for God, our city and the nations.

In a large congregation such as ours, there's always ways to serve and things to do with our church family. We love welcoming new people into our Sunday gatherings and encouraging them to get involved with our other ministries throughout the week. If you're interested in finding out more, do get in touch!

What do we do for students?

Our heart for student ministry is to welcome and get to know each student individually. We want to invest in you, help you grow in faith and welcome you into our multigenerational church family. Going to university and beginning student life is a huge change! We want to support all of our students as much as we can through the highs, lows and everyday. Fancy a home cooked Sunday lunch with a church family? We’ll organise it. Feel like you need some guidance? We offer mentoring. Or just a coffee with someone from our student team? We would love to! Whatever you need from your church family - give us a shout.

We appreciate you will be trying lots of churches in the first few weeks of the year! Each Sunday from 27th September to 16th October 2022 the 20s & 30s and Students teams would love to welcome you to stay after our evening gathering to meet members of our church family and ask any questions you have about who we are over dinner.

If you want to build a community of friends to support and encourage you through your uni years, then joining a small group is the right step for you. They provide space to study God’s word, worship and encourage one another whilst developing long lastings friendships with people of all ages. There are different groups available so we can place you in a group that’s the right fit for you!

Our students are also part of the young adults ministry which organises regular socials and outreach events. We believe that integrating into the wider church is a wonderful thing. These socials mean you can get to know people outside the student bubble and make friends who can support you with the transition after graduation.

It is important to us that students are involved in church and use their gifts to serve - we encourage everyone to get involved in leading and participating, wherever you are in your journey of faith. We learn and grow together and whether you've been a Christian for a while, are a new Christian, or indeed are just beginning to explore the Christian faith, you are so welcome!
